About 9% of girls and women aged 15 years and above surveyed had used tobacco in some form with the percentage of users in rural India higher at 10.5%, according to the the National Family Health Survey -5 (2019-21). Tobacco usage among males across India was at 38% with men in rural areas accounting for 42.7% of users.
