Nirbhaya’s mother: Trust in courts is eroding

Nirbhaya’s mother, Asha Devi, broke down after a trial court on Friday deferred the execution of the four convicts till further orders. She said the courts were destroying the trust that she had reposed in them over the years. “I don’t have a big problem with the hanging date being postponed, but I have a problem with how the lawyer of the convicts behaved with me today after the order was passed. He challenged me and said, ‘yeh faansi anantkal ke liye tal gayi (this hanging has been delayed till eternity)’,” a tearful Devi told TOI.
