FCI to continue selling grains; wheat stock may be around the buffer norm in April

State-owned Food Corporation of India (FCI) will continue selling rice and wheat in the open market as it has enough additional stock of both cereals than is required as per the buffer norm. However, going by the current pace of utilisation of wheat from its stock, the FCI would be left with the mandated reserve by April 1, which will be just around the buffer norm. This indicates that the government’s foodgrain management, which includes free ration to 81 crore poor and market interventions to check prices.
