India’s energy demand catches winter chill in December

India's energy demand in December was impacted by the winter chill and the disappearance of festive demand. Consumption of diesel, petrol, and electricity decreased as movement of people and materials reduced. Power consumption dropped by 2.3% compared to the previous year, marking the first decline since April 2023. Diesel consumption fell by 7.8% year-on-year, while petrol sales decreased by 1.4% from December 2022. Jet fuel sales grew by 3.8% as people chose to fly to avoid disruptions caused by fog. LPG consumption had a marginal growth of under 1%.
