Holiday cheer chokes central Delhi

The extended weekend in Delhi led to heavy traffic and congestion at popular tourist spots such as India Gate and the zoo. The roads around India Gate and War Memorial were choked with a large number of visitors on the public holiday of Gandhi Jayanti. The zoo had to cap the number of visitors at 18,000, but the actual count was much higher, causing traffic congestion on Mathura Road. Despite the traffic, no major delays or snarls were reported, and the wildlife week at the zoo started with a floral tribute to the animals.
